Tips on Finding Parking While You're Online
Web-based car parking solutions are just getting under way, but some of these new services may be able to save you time and frustration.
Findacarpark, in Australia only at the moment, has a database of private parking lots and a search engine to allow you to find the spot nearest you. The UK-based site parkatmyhouse.com is a similar service for London.
Highly touted Spotscout works with Internet-connected mobile phones, but so far is set up only for New York, San Francisco, and Boston. ParkWhiz is in beta mode and is focusing on Chicago and Philadelphia. If you're in Canada, sign up for the beta test at NoMeters.
Jay Fortner of Read/Write Web has a detailed analysis both of the services as they exist and a good forecast on where the niche business will go. He said he believes these services will be a tremendous value in being able to secure and reserve parking, rather than driving around the block hoping for an open spot to appear.
Do you live near a stadium or concert hall? You might benefit at both ends from these services, then; cash in by using these sites to market your space for parking.
