After radio silence throughout most of this financial crisis, President Bush (you remember him, right?) spoke today -- and he did better than I expected. I thought he was direct, calm, and relatively on-message. I'll post a full transcript when I can find one, and you can link to the video by clicking here.

You can choose to disagree with the actions being taken, but at least the President is -- as I've been demanding for two weeks -- finally out in front of the parade and attempting to justify spending so much of taxpayers' money.

By the way, I'm reasonably sure there was a Bush-ism in there: I think Bush said that market manipulators will be "persecuted". While that is almost certainly true, I'm guessing he meant "prosecuted".

no, you heard right. Bush clearly stated that he intends to persecute short sellers. 1. Persecution is the systematic mistreatment of an individual/group by another group.

“Welcome to the new US Economy, where profits are privatized, losses are socialized, and anyone not following these rules will be PERSECUTED!"

I am moving to another planet. See you there!

He is "the decision-maker" and has "never made a mistake" .... lol!
    PLUS he is an idiot!

What a disastrous administration for letting things come to this.
If McCain wins, I am moving up north to Canada.
That nation takes care of my healthcare (even if i am not working) and they have all the natural resources in the world to keep their economy booming. The US is becoming a socialist state and its finance/dollar is in the doghouse supported by naked government manipulation before the elections.

What has Palin done to show in any way that she has the experience, judgement, and temperament to be Commander-in-Chief of our sons and daughters? our President?

McCain has my contempt for placing America at risk of being led by a President Palin. (And no, I don't want to give her a chance in the hopes that she might really be great; They do that on Reality TV and it's called entertainment for a reason.)

Wonderfully, a growing number of conservatives have turned their back on McCain and are showing him the comtempt he deserves.

No surprise from George.... But really, what is wrong with him? Could he be sick? Early onset Alzheimer's? I think he needs a full mental evaluation - posted for the public!

I think the American public needs a full mental evaluation for keeping the election so close with Tootsie only a heartbeat away, questioning librarians about the legality of book burning...

I fell sorry for Mr Bush. I think in normal circumstances hewould be a likable guy but all this is way over his head. I just wish him good luck and God speed.
Did I hear correctly that 'evil-doers will be persecuted'. Be careful Mr President, be very careful what you ask for, you may get it.

I thought that Obama was smarter than to vote for this buyout. It rewards the rich at the expense of the poor. I don't think he will be our next president.

You heard correctly. He meant persecute! They will be sent to Guantanamo! (Prosecute is for those seeking justice under the Constitution, which obviously does not apply under this administration.)

Did someone mention something about conservatives? I'm very conservative with my money, investing in sure things such as gold and silver, so why do the "conservatives&qu... think that loose regulations and unsecured loans are the "right" thing to do? Spending money you dont have like there is no tomarrow, whats so conservative about that? Our nincompoop President will be prursecuted by his own making, however I dont care about him. I care about my country, The United States of America. However, you history bufs remember the mid thirtys in Germany, the most patriotic germans died in the concentration camps opposing hitler while the lessor patriots died in the battlefields supporting an evil nation. Evil at that time, anyway. If we do wrong in Iraq or anywhere else in the world just for economic gain then I'll refuse to suppot it, Lord Willing.

I have some vegtables I'll trade for some beef.
Bartertown is just another company bail out away.
I any other situation a companys' assets would be autioned off and any property the owners had would be confescated to pay any remaining debt after the aution.
All the political bashing doesn't address the issue or the article psted.
In short, if you haven't taken time to pan for a way out of the worst financial situation you could end up in you will be gobbled up in the wake of the financial collaspe to come.
Remember Alquida kept saying they had very good accountants in very important places and would destroy America's capitaistic control.
Or look into the chasms of our political system and quess how much money the politicians on both sides of the isles have taken in the wake of the recent financial crissis.
For idiots to sit back and blame one person for the mess we are in is below a thirg graders educational level. Ever hear of the "Checks and Balance" system.
