  • Initial Thoughts on Android and the G1 Smartphone
It must be the Sidekick experience that you have, because I found having to slide open the keyboard every time I wanted it to go landscape to be annoying. Didn't you find that annoying? And, the inconsistency in the UI from app to app was strange. That bothered me too. Then again, I only played with it for 5 mins.

  • Revisiting the iPhone’s Browsing Market Share (Part II)
Dude, the reason why people ragged on you is because, EVERYONE KNEW that Admob only counts "mobile web" numbers. You seemed to be the only person who did not realize that.

  • Apple's Surprising Jump After Bleak Guidance
You say, "Personally, I think a very conservative fair value estimate on Apple stock, in today's economy and market environment, is around $100 per share. I get there by taking 15 times net trailing operating earnings and adding in the company's huge $24.5 billion cash hoard."

You should try using net trailing non-GAAP operating earnings to get a true picture of Apple, and then do your little calculation, and see where your price target ends up.

  • Apple Takes a Bite of Research In Motion
Geez, crazylegs, you need to calm down a little. EVERYONE KNOWS that Apple launched the 3G iPhone and got a bump. EVERYONE KNOWS that sales of the old phone were cutoff. It's assumed by everyone, so no one needs to repeat it.

The fact is, regardless of whether Apple outsold or caught up, or was even behind Blackberry sales, it's STILL REMARKABLE, after only 15 months in the market. Yes, we know you're a RIM shareholder. It's obvious. Just because people are justifiably proud of how Apple has done with the iPhone should not threaten your manhood.

  • Apple: Greatest Consumer Technology Company in the World?
Geez, have you people even looked at the REAL earnings? You know, the non-GAAP ones?

  • Jobs Has Sold His 10 Million iPhones
As many have pointed out, not only did Apple make the 10M figure in 2008, they also activated 2.4M units in the US, leaving 2.5M for the ROW. That's a 50-50 split between US and ROW activations.

As for your 12M total this year, I think 5M units in Xmas is the conservative figure, based upon Apple's past performance with the EDGE iPhone and iPod. The aggressive figure would be 10M units for Xmas. That would put 2008 totals in the 15M to 20M range.

  • Was the iPhone Deal Worth It for AT&T?
LOL, to the people who don't want AT&T to invest in future growth, I guess the only answer is to NOT subsidize phones, or maybe they'd prefer AT&T sign up fewer iPhone subscribers.

  • Apple Earnings: What to Expect (And Who Not to Believe)
Let me point out that Changewave's last survey had a chilling effect on Apple's stockprice, AND, if you look at their charts that they used to justify their call, just stare at the x-axis. The incremental dates they take their survey are not the same. Sometimes there's a 3 month interval, and sometimes it's a one month interval. What that does is confuse the trends they are supposedly highlighting. People naturally see the x-axis and think the intervals are the same, either quarterly or monthly and they're not. It's a total mishmash, and makes interpretation, much much harder, if not impossible.

I'd say that it's almost stupid how they present the information, so I'd take anything that the Changewave guy said with a HUGE grain of salt. He has an angle and he will promote it. Didn't he say he's a "short" specialist?

Here's the article on SA where Paul Carton, Mr.Shulman's colleague showed off his nonsensical charts. Just stare at the x-axis and tell me that the data is valid for trendspotting?!?

  • Apple: Perplexed by Ports
Well, I didn't have to go to an Apple Store to figure out the ports. Pro models get FW and Expresscard slots and discrete graphics. They used to also get aluminum and LED backlights, but this generation brought aluminum and LEDs to the Macbook line. All the laptops will get DisplayPort and USB. The $1000 13" is a transition model and so is the 17". When they get updated, they'll have DisplayPort, too, though the $1000 13" will most likely get phased out and an entrylevel aluminum will replace it, once mfring costs have dropped.

  • End of the Line for Apple's FireWire
Interesting that it was not mentioned anywhere, but in some ways, Apple knifed its own baby. How so? Well, it was the original iMac from 10 years ago, that intro'd USB to the mass market. Until then, USB was having a hard time getting any traction. Apple dropped its ADB connectors for USB, and everyone had to get USB mice, and USB keyboards and USB printers and so on. So if FW has died in the consumer arena, Apple can thank itself for bringing about that change 10 years ago.

  • Apple Introduces MacBooks with "Unibody" Construction
You wrote, "Along with the aluminum models, Apple will continue to offer its existing plastic MacBook at a $100 price cut. It will sell for $999."

Actually, the model that got cut, was the old mid-range $1299 Macbook, so that was a $300 price cut. The old entry-level $1099 Macbook, was dropped.

  • End of the Line for Apple's FireWire
Pro models get FW. non-Pro models do not. non-Pro models like the Macbook have 13" screens, 1280x800, which are really too small to do serious FCP editing. Surely, a Pro can afford the amazing $2000 MBP? They can even get it refurb'd in a month or so for $1800, most likely. It'll have the bitchen graphics card too, just like a Pro model should have.

What Apple has done, is drop FW for those who manage their harddrive with FW bootups. I do that, but my Macs laptops are both 5 years old. At the consumer level, FW has been dying a slow death. Apple dropped FW sync from its iPods a while back, and the iPhone lost FW power, in the 2nd generation. So, while FW is better than USB, it's become the Sony Beta to VHS; however it will live on just like Sony Beta at the professional level.

  • Apple's New Line: Can It Make Headway in a Recession?
The $999 Macbook is the formerly $1299 Macbook. It was the old mid-range model, not the old entry-level model that cost only $1099. In other words, this model dropped $300.

If you think about it, if Apple had chopped $300 off the old-entry level model at $1099, that would have been the magical $799 rumor that one person was touting. BUT, Apple typically drops the lowest model, and moves everything done one notch, when intro'ing new products.
