  • Solar Power Will Be Transformational in the Next Decade
I am a fan of yours even though I am politically far to the right of you. Many "rightwingnuts&qu... are also concerned about the environment and the health of the economy. I was a school boy in Florida (where I now reside) in the 1930s. Poor folks could not afford and electric, or kerosene, water heater. Many homes in Florida featured a shallow wooden box with copper, or even galvanized pipe, latticed in it. The whole interior was painted black and a sheet of window glass over the top kept out debris and promoted a greenhouse effect. After WWII ended , power companies pushed "Gold Medallion" homes serviced by "Reddy Kilowatt" and two dollar a barrel oil. Presently, in Central Florida, we are paying 22 cents a kilowatt. We installed a modern solar water heater a few years ago and our total electric bill has hovered around the low 70 dollar range for a three bedroom, three bath house. Of course, when the cooling season hits, our electric bill will increase significantly. I am very interested in installing a solar electric system in our home and I was practically salivating at your last article. I expect that most new home construction (boy, is that forward looking!) will feature solar electric collectors. The cost will be folded into the mortgage just like household appliances. Nothing like paying for a dishwasher or a refrigerator over thirty years!. I will be looking forward to your future posts. Jimbo
