  • Back Room Deal? - Cramer's Mad Money (10/10/08)
I dislike Cramer a great deal, and wondered why he would tell everyone to sell off and stay out for 5 years. What did he see? If you look at the 1929/1930 market movements, you will be struck by the correlations between the current ones. You had a peak on Sept. 3rd at 381.17 and a drop to 198.6 on that fateful October day in 1929. The recovery rally went to early April and peaked at 294. From there we had a slow roll down to 41.22 on July 8th, 1932. To correlate in a proportional way, you would need to have our 14,280 top, go to a 7,440 bottom, then rebound to 11,014 only to drop to 1,544 over a long period of time. Maybe this is what Cramer saw, and why he reacted so strangely on The Today Show. Personally, I don't believe any two time periods are governed by mathematics, but others do and isn't TA all about fulfilling preconditioned expectations via "quants" and the computer programs they run?

  • Wake Up Copper Consuming Dragon
jegan - thanks for putting out all of that information. Saw the interview with the Seaspan CEO, and also saw his previous one. He's always conservatively bullish, so I do not use him as an indicator. The BDI has been lousy, and like you, I keep expecting it to turn or do something. I was aware of China stockpiling various metals, including copper, this Spring, preparing for their dual Olympics, as well as Jiaxing Copper cutting back production (to lower energy consumption during the Olympics). Without a rate cut 9/16, and a Chinese factory restart on 9/21...although a big fan of FCX...I've got to flip to an ultra-inverse market ETF on any post Lehman deal rally, and hope for an FCX rally based on gold strength (8% of revenue). As for why FCX vs. PCU, the answer is moly, more diversified mining locations, increasing dividend and production (see FCX site and latest presentation) vs. PCU's decreasing dividend and production (650K is now 550K, announced in August).

  • 49 Stocks For Buffett Fans
As for SLB, we had a 2m barrel of oil, short-side surprise on Friday, and now another LOOP threatening hurricane entering the GOM this week. I know Bush gave the okay Wednesday to use the Strategic Oil reserves, but these delivery disruptions at some point, overwhelm our ability to subsidize.

  • 49 Stocks For Buffett Fans
The short answer is that you missed the opportunity at 10:00 am on Friday, to buy under $69. With Ike projected to enter the GOM, FRE/FNM bailout projected to cost the government trillions, inflation looming, a rate cut in response to more banking troubles, even more inflation looming, and hedge fund sell-offs done, we're resuming the commodity bull market on Monday.

  • Ten Shining Arizona Stocks
Um, are there editors at Seeking Alpha? I've got this story I wrote about a cow that got all tangled up in a barbed wire fence in Putnam County, NY. Seems it got scared from a recent lightning strike, and ol' Mr. Gantry didn't notice it was missing from the herd until afternoon milking time. I'll save the "twist" for when I get the full story gets published by this "folksy website".

  • Freeport McMoran: With Copper Prices Rising, It's Still a Buy
A Citi analyst just upgraded copper and surgical coal stocks? FCX upgraded? This must be based on some combination of squiggly lines, yes? Oh, wait, I see it's based on higher expected copper prices. So, that higher price multiplied by higher volumes of metal, will yield higher revenues?
