Is Riverbed Technology the Next Cisco?

My contact at Cisco says that within a year Cisco routers will have all the functionality of the Riverbed boxes built in, completely eliminating the need for them. According to him, Cisco has developed this technology in house and are very unlikely to acquire Riverbed. Considering that RVBD is short on cash and is barely profitable, it is hard to imagine how this company will be able to survive if Cisco does not buy them out.

Wells Fargo (WFC) will become the largest U.S. bank by branches with its bid for Wachovia (WB), after Citigroup (C) withdrew from compromise negotiations late yesterday on concerns about the quality of some of Wachovia's assets. Wells Fargo, with a bid valued at $11.4B, expects the purchase to be completed by the end of the year, and denies it will have to absorb assets shakier than originally thought.
