The Street Underestimates the Strength of Apple's Deferred Revenues
Yeah, I have a model of their earnings and the deferred revenues are simply astounding. You'll be looking at almost a Billion per quarter within a year.

The Fed Won't Save Us, But Here's How to Make Money - Barron's Interview with Jeremy Grantham
You guys talking about the housing market "correcting to the mean", well that is fine in California where you overbuilt and overbought, but in middle america (not Ohio), home prices are fine...still going up, albeit more slowly and unlikely to drop precipitously given the amount of growth we are seeing.

Living on the coast might be nice, but you must start thinking it is the whole country, and it isn't.

      Apple: On an Innovation Treadmill
I don't own a single Apple Product, but I've done a better analysis than you have. If you look STRICTLY at iphone revenues and earnings, the rest of the company could not grow at all and the iphone will account for the growth needed. These numbers are easy to calculate given the information Apple has already provided on sales, forecasts and deferred revenue/earnings.

Emerging Markets Have a Lot Further to Fall
So, articles now just consist of wild suppositions with no corroborating evidence? Pointing at what something did last week does not indicate what it will do next week.

Apple's Valuation Is Looking Attractive Again
$6 earnings easily this year. P/E is thus 20. Plus it has $20 per share cash and will generate another $10 per share this year. If you look at the deferred earnings from the iphone, already at $250 million recognized in the latest quarter, given that they defer over 24 months, you can say that by the end of 2008, they will be recognizing some $600 million per quarter for the iphone and TV thing. That's 2.4 billion a year, or $40 billion in market cap that is attributable directly to the phone and TV thing.

Finally, you have to realize that the stock WILL gain favor again and when it does it will go to some high P/E value, at least for a while. might be 2008, might be 2009, but it will happen.
Growing at 40% with a P/E of 20? Yeah, I'll sign up for that.

      Short Idea: Terra Nitrogen
Yeah, you can't short it. Besides, it is 50/50 after the first $1 EACH QUARTER, so that means it still yields 3%+ without any split at all, easy 5% yield.

Performance by Short Interest Decile: Not What You'd Expect
"This is interesting given the fact that markets are down so much in 2008. One would think that short investors would be doing well in this type of market, but the numbers below indicate otherwise."

How so? Shorts are UP, regardless of decile. Longs are down regardless of decile.

"Could this be due to buy-side firms being forced to liquidate positions, thus pushing highly shorted stocks higher because the positions have to be bought. "

Is that a question? If so, you missed the question mark. And of course in a market that is DUMPING, people on margin are going to be buying back their shorts and selling their longs, making the good stuff go down and the bad stuff go up (or down less in this case).

Selling Over? I'm Just Not Buying It.
Well, home prices are UP here in Oklahoma. Employment is fine, cities are growing quickly.

I don't think people are getting foreclosed on or missing payments on loans. Home sales were down 5% year over year, but previous year was alltime record and we had huge ice storm in December, so no concerns, basically growing faster than ever.

If that is what it is like here, I hardly think we have a global recession occuring due to a US problem which can't even affect my state.

2008 Earnings Estimates Overly Optimistic; Bottoming Process Beginning?
A lot of companies will be on sale at ridiculously low prices this week.

Technology has made the bear markets shorter and shorter. Plus, stocks are forward looking...They are gonna finish pricing in the bad news this week (overly much) and from there it will be sideways then up.

      A Glimpse Into Apple’s Future
Just mentioning Apple is sure to get comments...but this article is very short on any real prognostication and seems just like a title with some words under it.

Apple is a stock for the ages. You can watch on the sidelines or not...your call.
