  • Chevron: Currently Cheap and a Possible Winner In an Economic Turnaround
Nicely written up. I also believe CVX and the US economy should start a slow growth process in late 2009.........CVX should be a winner for those who are patient.

I can't believe all those investors throwing money at TIPS, and other Treasury investments at 0%, when you can own aprime company such as CVX, and while you wait they pay out a nice dividend!

    Thanks for the article!

  • Time to Buy Water ETFs?
LAYN is a high cyclical stock, so it would be better (to reduce risk) to look at other "water" stocks & ETFs to minimize volatilty.
    Just my opinion.

  • Tanker Stocks: Frontline Slashes Dividend
I am also an SFL & VLCCF holder......however, we need to take into consideration that there are other countries around the world that still need supplies shipped-in, and while tanker rates will definitely be lower for the coming 2009 period, I believe that once the world turns around, tanker etc,. rates will start their upward movement.

when, well I dont know, but end-2009/early 2010 would be my "guess". In the meantime I will hold share and enjoy the "sadly-lower"... dividend period!

  • 'Buy and Hold' Is Alive and Well
Interesting comments in this article. I have been a buyer of DRIPS--more "buy-and-hold&quo... than trading constantly.........wha... alleviates my current "suffering" is the fact that most of my DRIPS are paying me a dividend.
Dividends helps as share prices plunge.....to-date i have not had any bankruptcies in my holdings.......I will kep my "fingers crossed",,,,,
I will work a bit longer, and, pray that we start getting out of this financial mess by end-2009.

  • Bernanke's Fall from Grace
I love all these comments about "our" former "Greenspeak"...

However, let's not be to fast in our criticisms---after all, WE were all part of the the same crowd who were happy/elated to see stocks go up...up...and up! "Greed" comes back to haunt us, and those of us who are now suffering, we are paying for our "greed"!
Fortunately, some of us invested (not speculated) in some good dividend paying stocks---while we ride out this "panic selling" or better "almost capitulation where everything is being thrown out to go fos CASH!
What a ridiculous extreme we are now heading to.

  • Argentina: Sinking
    Dont cry for me Argentina!

As wealthy as Argentina was in the 1930's-1940's, there have been very few government's who have really cared for the welfare of their people.

A country great in agricultural products, almost self-sufiecient in oil & gas and an educated population............... should be in the ranks of Canada!

Wow, even Brazil is now better than Argentina!

  • Does Dividend Reinvestment Pay?
That's precisely what I have been doing for the past 10 years. I am getting close to looking at retirement (well-maybe I will push it off a little further given how things are).
Some DRIPS have done better than others, but I still accumulate "extra" shares.........I will sell the "not-so-good-one'... when market turns around and replace them with more "steady dividends & growing payouts" in the coming 2-3 years.
A good software program can keep track of your re-invested dividends, keep diversified and limit your holdings to a max. of 10% of total investments.
